RECENT ACTIVITIES

There is no way to "catch up" my blogging. I have just decided I will blog when I have something worthwhile, which isn't really very often!

We are currently in Denver working. I had an extra day (I flew from back east and Jeff came in from Montana) so I went up to the Rocky Mountain National Park (Estes Park). It was a beautful day and I enjoyed myself.

The Pages Keep Turning.....

The one thing consistne in life is CHANGE. This Fall has brought change to seveal of our kids.

Tammy is a new mom again and has a Second Grader. She decided NOT to do as much canning this summer with the new baby, but as far as I could tell, it sounded like she was doing as much as ever! Maisie is now in 2nd grade and has changed to a Charter school in Boise. The classes are smaller which should be good for her. Sawyer Tate is a "Brannon" cookie cutter and cute as a bug! Tammy had a much easier delivery this time around, which we were grateful for. Can't wait to see him in October.

Tanya was hired as a new First Grade teacher four days before school started so she and her family have been "behind the curve ball" constantly trying to keep up with the adjustments of having a "working mom" instead of a "stay at home" mom. She is a great teacher and once she gets this first year under her belt, I am sure it won't be as crazy busy!

Chad and Cassie have had major overhaul work on their yard that they had put HOURS of work into! Hopefully the contractors will get it done right this time! Cassie had a long, exhausting summer travling about 4,000 miles to Monana and points beyond. But we really appreciated her effort as we were able to have Jessica and Justin for part of the summer and we are looking forward to seeing them during the Christmas Holidays as well.

Life keeps moving on.....it;s hard to believe All my children are 30 or OLDER!!

I would post some pixs, but I don't know how to steal pictures from my kids' blogs!

Death March

Jeff and I recently went on one our annual hikes into the wilderness, but this one had an entirely different ending...

We had plans to return to the Beartooth Wilderness out of Red Lodge, Montana. We went last year and it was an incredible trip, beautiful scenery, great fishing, and just a great hike. Just before we were scheduled to leave we checked the weeather and it was pretty ugly. 29 degrees with snow, rain and a high of around 48 for the entire week.

So............we decided to take another hike. This one was up the Kootenai Lake trail in the Bitterroot Mountains. Several years ago we had hiked a parallel drainage and had always wanted to go up Kootenai Creek so we decided to do it....the only glich is we decided to do it in three days. NOT a good idea.

These are the things I learned....

50 is not the new 30 when it comes to hiking
You CAN wear the same pair of shorts all week.
You do not STOP unless absolutely necessary.
The guy who writes for the Falcon Guide Wilderness Hikes is a goat....not human
He has entirely different definitions for:
"GRADUAL GRADE", "GENTLE SWITCHBACKS", "KNEE HIGH WATER", AND "SOON"

Jeff overheated about 4.5 miles in and he struggled through feeling light headed, sick to his stomach and weak throughout the rest of the trip.

We hiked 10.5 miles in the first day, (actually, we crawled up the mountain), fished a bit the second day and ended up hiking out 5 - 6 miles that day and the last 3-4 on the third day. We got out on Saturday and left for Texas City, Texas early Sunday morning. We were a little slow and sluggish and achey, but we survived (just barely) to tell the tale!

We have drawn a line in the sand about how much we will pack in a day....learn to lighten our load and try not to kill ourselves while we are doing something we love to do!

Sunday, August 2

Well.....I don't have any pixs today, but I decided it is way to long since I blogged. I will try to post pictures later.....when we get home, but I have a bit of time so I thought I would write a few things down.

Our summer has been beyond busy! It began with Dad and Nancy coming up to see us and Terry. They flew into Spokane and stayed with Chuck and Janet so everyone came over for a SHORT visit. It was great seeing them, but not near long enough.

Todd and Kyle came in June and since Todd had never been to Montana to see us it was a real treat! We hiked, canoed, visited Sis, b-b-qued and did a bunch of sight-seeing. They rented Harley's for a day and took a trip up Lolo Pass and into Idaho. They seemed to really enjoy their trip and we loved having them. They have two great black labs. I don't think they know they are dogs, but Hunter enjoyed the company for a few days.

Just before Todd and Kyle came, Cassie, Chad and Justin and Jessica were here. Chad wasn't able to stay too long, but Cassie stayed a few extra days, then went to Libby and then came back for another week. LOVE THOSE GRANDBABIES! I will have some pixs tomorrow!

We took Tanya's kids and Justin camping for a few days. We went to Seeley Lake and had a great time. The Mom's came up later and stayed for a night as well.

Tammy had a new baby this summer....July 16th found us in Boise for the birth of Sawyer Tait. He is really a cutie....when he gets grumpy he looks exactly like Brannon! She had a great delivery...very different from the last two, so we are grateful for that. While there we called some great "old" friends, the Perry's and had a wonderful visit with them. It had been way to long.

When we left Boise we brought Tammy and Brannon's two oldest girls home, Maise and Addie, for a week. We did all the traditional "Missoula, MT" things.....carousel, water park, etc. This year we did go down to the river with Tanya and her kids. They had a ball playing in the river all day long. They rafted down on inner tubes most of the day, they hardly stopped to eat. It was a great trip.

We have done some traveling with work this summer. Jeff more than me, but we are "back in the saddle" now and have several weeks of work until October.

We are going to pack back into the Beartooth Wilderness again this year. We go in a couple weeks. We had such a great time last summer and scenery was so outstanding we decided to go back in for one more year.

We biked the Hiawatha Trail with Scott and Gloria Spencer. That was another Great trip! Beautiful scenery and a very enjoyable trip. Not too hard, but good exercise. We will be taking another bike trip with them in September closer to Cour'd Lene, Idaho.

September hopes to find us (maybe closer to October) camping and canoeing. We are trying to fit in one more trip before winter hits. It's hard to believe it is already August!

I will try to post pixs tomorrow or the next day. Blogs are not as much fun without those.

Sunday, April 19

OK...OK...OK

I know I have been delinquent.....I have been forgetting my camera lately and so I have had to use my phone to take pixs. I haven't yet figured out how to transfer the pictures, but that is a project for tomorrow....Have some good pictures of Florida and spring finally "springing" here in Montana!

Will get back on it so my kids won't have to nag me anymore!

SKUNKED!

Noah turned eight this year and one of the "rights of passage" seems to be the Pinewood Derby contest. Papa has been able to help all the boys with their cars at different times in their lives and this year he got to help Noah. Noah pained the car black with a silver stripe (no suprise there!) and decided to name it Skunk. It SKUNKED everyone! It was great and lots of fun. Now the "Skunk" and Noah get to go to the next level in Missoula. FUN TIMES!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAISIE AND TAMMY!

Tammy somehow managed to have her first child and daughter, Maisie, on her own birthday, February 27th. Jeff and I were able to be there for the birthday this year. Of course, Maisie is the one who gets all the attention and the "mom" does the work. Tammy had 10 little seven year old girls, plus a 2 1/2 year old for the party! She made hair ribbons and pink, girlie bags for the party, cupcakes in the shape of hearts and heart decorations. Exhausting but very cute and Maisie loved it. Happy birthday girls!
